News – August/September 2011

• It was great to meet many of our clients at the recent SLANZA Conference held at St Cuthbert’s College, Auckland. Robin especially enjoyed catching up with many old friends and acquaintances. We showed many of our new items including book marks for both primary and secondary schools, a glue pen which is suitable for everyone to re-glue pages into books,  bookends, book easel, Plastipad glue, and our Covercare self adhesive with the largest range of available widths in New Zealand.
  
  To those of you who attended my workshop at the Conference, I hoped you managed to pick up at least one idea to take back to your library.
  
  We held our first book covering course early July/11 at Aorere College, Auckland. The course was a joint venture with the Auckland SLANZA region committee and we had a full house of 15 participants. Robin was the course presenter and by all accounts, everyone enjoyed the session. We have already received interest for further courses, especially in early 2012. If you wish to attend one of these courses, please advise us and we will keep you posted when there will be one in your area.

New Products

Donation Labels
White matt self adhesive labels with a black border and ‘Donated by’. Size is 98mmH x 89mmW and presented as A4 sheet with 6 labels per sheet. More detail in the LABEL section.

Cutting Mats
We now have premium quality non-slip cutting mats available in two sizes being 600 x 450mm and 900 x 600mm. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Ruler (stainless steel)
Essential when using a cutting knife to trim Hardcover160 and Hardcover250 when covering books. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Cutting Knife
Heavy duty cutting knife with metal blade guide. Also, replacement blades in a 10 pack. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Label Dispenser
Excellent dispenser for label protectors, R.F. date de-tuners, rolls of printed spine labels, etc. Handle total width capacity of 110mm. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Book Easel, Multi Size
Adjustable for large, medium, and small books. Folds flat for storage. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Glue Pen
It is dual action  -  permanent bond when wet (blue colour) and temporary bond when dry (clear colour). You gently squeeze the bubble grip to dispense a thin line of glue, which is blue. Use now for permanent bond. Otherwise, after some minutes, it will change colour from blue to clear. Can now be used for temporary bond and can be repositioned.
Excellent for gluing loose pages back into books, displays, art portfolios, craft, etc. The glue is acid free. More detail in the MISCELLANEOUS section.

Book Marks
Launched at the SLANZA Conference 2011. Range of 5 different genre book marks for Primary schools  and 13 different genre book marks for Secondary schools. Each with relevant genre pictures on one side and recommended authors on the reverse. The recommended authors were compiled by two secondary librarians in Dunedin and one primary librarian in Auckland. Our thanks to these librarians. The book marks will be available as either a 100 pack of each genre or a combined pack, 200 book marks, ( 5 x 40 each of primary and 13 x 15 each plus 5 extra of secondary). Product Update

COMPACT LIBRARY TROLLEY
Our new COMPACT library trolleys arrived mid May/11, however, we had to return all of them to the manufacturer due they were not built to design specification and the finish quality was sub-standard.
We are expecting to receive our new correctly built COMPACT trolleys by mid August/11. The price will be $399 plus freight and GST.

General and Reminders

1. On our website, we have moved Clear Label Protectors and Colour/Tinted Label Protectors from MISCELLANEOUS section to LABELS section.
2. If you need help promoting your library to students, then consider our ‘Great Library Ideas’ book. Wonderful ideas and games which can be adapted to suit most ages. If your library is currently being used as a classroom, as in more than a few primary schools today, the ‘Book Wall’ idea is an excellent concept which can be used in classrooms. It will help keep promoting reading and interest in library activity while the library is out of action.
3. Save time with our Alpha labels for use on your Picture books.
4. Need new posters for your library? Check our Library and World Issues posters -  anew poster each month for the next 12 months. And the added bonus of being able to print as many copies as you require at no extra cost!
